Men and Women in Uniform
Our men and women serving in the military have done everything we've asked of them, and more. Coming from a family with three generations of military service, Josh knows that honoring veterans is our first duty as Americans. Josh will always put our men and women in uniform above special interests.
In return for their service, our veterans receive benefits including disability compensation for combat injuries, pension programs, medical care and counseling, and education programs. Josh would make sure that all of these benefits are adequately funded and available to the veterans of the 3rd District.
Our veterans deserve to receive these benefits in a timely manner. Unfortunately, the VA is backlogged with hundreds of thousands of benefits claims. It can take months, and in some cases over a year, to process these claims. As more troops return home, we must expand the VA's ability to process these claims in an efficient manner. This requires increasing human resources and upgrading to an electronic benefit system.
Our current leadership has a poor track record of supporting veterans. Mike Rogers voted against the 21st Century GI Bill and health care benefits for Alabama's national guardsmen and reservists. He also voted to cut funding to VA hospitals. While voting to increase his own pay, Rogers voted against a $1,500 bonus for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Josh will make sure our guardsmen have high-quality health care, access to social workers for post traumatic stress disorder, educational opportunities and job protection for husbands and wives who are coping with family emergencies while their spouses serve overseas.
Alabama's 3rd Congressional District is full of men and women who courageously served their country. It's time they are served by a Congressman who fully supports veterans, not the special interests. Josh will honor our deployed Alabama guard and soldiers by getting them the supplies they need while giving them the benefits and pay they have earned.
